My main area of focus lies in the realm of clinical data warehousing and storage/retrieval optimization within. I currently work as a research assistant for the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science in the biomedical data warehousing research group and will be teaching 06K:186, Database Management II, in the Spring. I am also the current president of the Graduate Informatics Society and would like to invite any currently enrolled graduate students to visit our site and contact me with any questions. A more detailed list of my research interests is as follows:

• Heuristics and models for the view selection problem in single- and multi-machine configurations
• View selection, maintenance, and merging formulations with temporal constraints
• Data warehousing issues inherent in the integration, optimization, identification, and connectivity of clinical datasets
• Database/data warehouse design, federation, and clustering
• Query generation and completion via graph theory for clinical question answering systems
• Hardware and software configurations for trie-based nucleotide sequence repositories
• Propositional frameworks and query languages to facilitate attribute-value learners in a relational environment
• Parallelization of algorithms/high-performance computing

 

I am fascinated by unconventional data representations and storage structures such as tries combined with LRU caches to facilitate a more efficient search among a corpus of nucleotide sequences. My new favorite toy is ANTLR - a grammar development environment - which I am currently employing to rewrite the parser and lexer for my propositionalization SQL extension PQL.
